MND Association runs
the route of the Classical Marathon of Athens
|
|
|

|

|

The
Motor Neurone Disease Association
is among the biggest charities in the UK and it chose
to run the route of the Classical
Marathon of Athens to raise
money for its objectives.
Motor Neurone Disease (MND)
is a fatal disease presenting a series of neurological
disoreders which destroy the motor neurons, the cells
responsible for the control of the voluntary muscle movements,
such as the speech, walking, breathing and swallowing.
Seventeen members of the MNDA
ran the route of the Athens
Classical Marathon as one
team, during the 6 and 7 October
two-day event, as the event's goal wasn't to achive a
personal record but the participation at the Original
Marathon Route and the finish at Kalimarmaron
Stadium for the charity's
goals. The event required significant planning and preparation,
in collaboration with local authorities, from the police
to the Greek Olympic Committee, for which Experience
Ltd was responsible.
The finish at the Kalimarmaro stadium was a very emotional
moment, as most of the participants are associated with
persons that suffer from the MND. Between
them, three participants ran the marathon in memory of
a close friend that died during the London Marathon.

the forecast prediction for heavy rain, the 12 Olympian
Gods granted the 12 participants of the

member of the V.S.O group achieved its remarkable personal
Goal inspiring the rest of the team in a unique effort
that we wish it will continue in events held by the V.S.O
charity in the future.
We, the guides of this trek, want to congratulate Chrissie,
Jane, Dianna, Malcom, David, Peter, Roger, Tanya, Shelley,
Ron, Hannah and especially Ralph
for achieving their personal goals and for being an inspiration
to all of us...

Hope Charity on Mount Olympus - The Olympic Challenge
|
|
|

|
|
|
| |
The
2004 fundraising trekking event held once a year by Hope
Charity (for children with special needs),
took place in Greece. As the 2004 Olympic Games return
to their birthplace, Hope Charity marked this historic
moment to trek to the summit of Mt Olympus, the mythical
home of the ancient Greek gods, Mitikas, Mount Olympus'
highest peak (2,917m) and the highest point in all of
Greece. There, like Zeus, on
19 June 2004 the
48 participants of the charity
surveyed the world from the peaks Skolio,
Skala, and Mitikas and enjoyed
views as 'fit for the gods'!

58
persons from Scope
Charity (for people with cerebral palsy)
participated in their own Olympic challenge for the 2004
Olympic Games, by conquering on 5
June 2004 the second highest
summit of Mount Olympus "Scolio"
at 2911 m. The Greek gods did not allow the charity participants
to reach Mitikas summit, by covering the 2917m top in
blank clouds (everybody was expecting Zeus to appear that
day...).
The trekking event gathered a total of 80.000 UK Pounds
for the Scope Charity cause. So, everybody, Keep on Trekking
with Scope!!
