| Day 1 |
We start this day visiting
the Kir-Yanni estate. Kir-Yianni
was founded in 1997 as a premium spin-off of the
Boutari Group, the
leading wine and beer producer of Greece. The first
vintage dates back to 1990, while the 1995 vintage
was the first one for the estate wines under the
Kir-Yianni brand name. Based on two 30-year-old
estates, the winery has an annual production of
500.000 bottles of dry white and red wines. More
than half the labels are single vineyard growths
from the total private acreage of 50 hectares planted
with indigenous and international varieties on the
eastern and western slopes of Mt. Vermio. While
Kir-Yianni is better known for its rare Xinomavro,
an indigenous Greek variety, it has also been internationally
acclaimed as a top producer of Syrah, as well as
of Sauvignon Blanc and its blend with Roditis -another
indigenous Greek grape.
In the afternoon we'll visit the winery of Amyndeo
Co-op, situated in Amyndeo.
Xynomavro is the variety which prevails in
the region and UAC in Amyndeo uses exclusively grapes
of these varietals to make wine. We'll be informed
about the history of UAC in Amyndeo and its winery,
get familiar with the production process and the
aging process of wines at one of the wine-vaults
inside the winery that one will be visiting at the
time and of course have the opportunity to try the
Union's wines under the factory's enologist's guidance.

| Day 2 |
Today we will visit
Goumenissa city,
a city with a great tradition in viniculture. The
wines produced in this area come from the vineyards
of mountain "Paiko".
The high standard Winery of "Boutari"
will welcome us in order to show us everything concerning
the wine and its history. We'll see in underground
cellars the wines, as they are aging in particularly
limited number of bottles, wines of exceptional
vintages that wait for the moment to offer a unique
gustatory travel in time to all wine lovers.
We will leave Goumenissa, heading to Pella,
to visit the Ligas wine
yard. Pella is established as a place with
deep-rooted traditions in wine and the vine: "the
land of vines; Pella, the mother of wines".
It was in Pella that Euripides,
the great tragedian, found the inspiration for his
Bacchae and It was
in Pella that Alexander
the Great began his renowned expedition,
followed the path of the god Dionysus in order to
discover his mysteries and the lands where the vine
grows.

| Day 3 |
Today we visit the Gerovasileiou
wine yard. Á few km outside Thessaloniki
on the hillsides of Epanomi,
thrives many years now, a privately owned and well
taken care of vineyard of 23 ha with distinguished
varieties. The soil of these hillsides derives from
alluviums of surrounding aquatic area, while the
mild winter and cool summer created an ideal ecosystem
for the vineyards cultivation. Therefore this area
was given the name kalamaria (namely good side).
Next we'll visit the Babajimopoulos
Domain. Babatzimopoulos' winery is situated
on the slopes of Vertiscos, in Ossa. The wines of
the wine factory are produced from grapes which
are cultivated in a biological way in the privately
owned vineyard. We'll have a very interesting tour
in the wine-vault and get familiar with the various
vintages of wine as the bottles have been laid slantwise. |
|
| Day 4 |
Today we visit the Texni
Oinou domain
at Mikrohori Dramas. The district, enjoying propitious
soil and climatic conditions, has a long history
of wine-making, history which is now being revived
thanks to the personal initiative and passion of
the two winemakers, Yiannis Papadopoulos and Yiannis
Kalaitzidis.
From these vineyards the estate produces each year
no fewer than 60.000 bottles of its label
Techni Alipias -
the Greek word Techni meaning art or skill and the
word Alipia from ancient Greek meaning absence of
sorrow.
The name was inspired by ancient texts which tells
us that "... Dionysos, the son of Zeus and
Semele, bestowed on making the gift of wine so that
men might forget their sorrows".
